South Dakota Resident Elected to High Secretary

Betty Fiegen will serve as High Secretary effective January 1, 2021.

Fiegen is a member of St. Mary 1173 in Dell Rapids, one of Catholic Order of Foresters’ local courts. She has been a member of the organization for four decades. Fiegen earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Colorado Tech University Online. She is currently serving as a High Court Trustee on Catholic Order of Foresters’ High Court, a position she has held since 2012.

Fiegen shares that she considered seeking the High Secretary position shortly after she was elected to serve her second term on the board because she has a financial and fraternal background and is passionate about serving the members of Catholic Order of Foresters (COF). “When I heard the results of the election for High Secretary, I was honored and grateful for the support shown to me by the delegates to fulfill the mission of COF,” Fiegen said.

“I view COF as a ‘family’ organization where we are able to practice our Catholic faith and instill lifelong values in our children and grandchildren through our fraternal works,” Fiegen said. Of the challenges COF faces, she adds, “It has been and will continue to be a challenge to meet families where they are today.”

She and her husband have four children and 13 grandchildren and have been involved in the farming industry, an experience which includes building their own family farming business. For the past 12 years, Fiegen has worked in the banking industry, and she has also been involved in accounting in the agriculture industry. In 2018, she and her husband, John, testified at the South Dakota Taxation Hearing in support of fraternal organizations. “A true [COF member] doesn’t sit on the sidelines,” she said. “They step up and take charge to make it happen!”

Fiegen concluded, “I have been so fortunate to work with the trustees who are retiring this year. I am looking forward to building relationships with the new trustees as we move COF forward.”
