Members suffering from a terminal illness with less than one year to live may access a portion of their insurance policy proceeds with the addition of an Accelerated Death Benefit rider. This is available at no charge on most COF policies. Subject to terms and conditions.
Newborn Infant Benefit
Effective June 1, 2018, parents whose child dies in the 90 days following its birth may receive a $5,000 death benefit. Additionally, one of the following must apply to the parents:
- If the parents of a newborn child are married, both parents of the child must own or be insured by a COF policy (excluding supplemental contracts, annuity and/or accidental death benefit policy).
- If the parents of a newborn child are not married, one of the parents of the child must own or be insured by a COF policy (excluding supplemental contracts, annuity and/or accidental death benefit policy).
