Another successful Feeding God’s Children T-shirt packing day! As one volunteer shift moved seamlessly into the next, quantity and size shout-outs set pickers and packers to work filling orders that ranged from just ten shirts to one topping 580. By noon on April 3, more than 8,331 shirts were counted, recounted, boxed, and routed to the mail room for processing and shipping.

Wondering what this year’s Feeding God’s Children (FGC) T-shirt count totaled?

Eight thousand three hundred and thirty-three to be exact! But then who’s counting? Well next week (April 3/4) home office employee volunteers will be doing just that as they tackle filling FGC T-shirt orders.

COF’s Great Room serves as packing central with every table stacked high with shirts sorted by size. Each court order is counted and recounted before being packed and shipped. This year, the well-oiled order filling system, honed over the past three years by Danielle Marsh, is being overseen by Fraternal Outreach Coordinator Mary Kenkel.

In May 2011, COF experienced a phenomenal participation increase when 112 courts and more than 7,900 volunteers fed God’s children. This service day was held in conjunction with American Fraternal Alliance’s Join Hands Day.

What contributed to 2011’s success? The participation upsurge reflects the number of courts and agents who partnered with local Catholic schools, parish youth groups, Confirmation class students, and community youth organizations. Increased numbers provided increased opportunities to tackle bigger projects, feed more people, pack more meals, stock more food shelves, clean more parks, church, and school grounds. During the past three years, one such ongoing and growing partnership of courts, agents, and schools allowed the group to restock nine food pantries in 2011, an increase of seven since their first 2008 FGC project.
